Dr. David Benson is proudly campaigning for the privilege of representing Kansas House District 48.
Born and raised in Chanute, Kansas, Dave is a graduate of Chanute High School. Married to Donni Benson for 48 years on June 1st. They have two adult children living in Johnson County. He is an alumnus of Pittsburg State University, Wichita State University, and has an earned Doctoral Degree from Kansas State University. Dave is retired from an active 44 year career as an educator, serving as a Superintendent of Schools in Kansas in the Moundridge USD#423 and Blue Valley USD#229; in Missouri in the Ladue School District; in Iowa in Fort Madison CSD and Cedar Rapids CSD; and most recently in Lee’s Summit R-7. He worked collaboratively with all staff and community members in some of Mid-America’s finest Public School Districts and was recognized as the Kansas Superintendent of the Year in 2001.
Dr. Benson’s many community engagements include Civic Clubs, Member - Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, Member - Mainstream Coalition, Board Member -United Way of Eastern Iowa, Board Member - Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board – Creve Coeur/Olivette Chamber of Commerce, Board Member - Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Board Member - Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, Pittsburg State University Alumni Board Member, President of the Board – United Community Services of Johnson County, and Board Member – Heart of America United Way for Metropolitan Kansas City.
Among Dave’s many awards and recognitions are a Congressional Tribute for outstanding Service as the Superintendent of Blue Valley Schools in the Federal Congressional Record, June 2, 2004. Other significant awards and recognitions include the Paul Simon Award for outstanding contributions in Foreign Language Education in 2013, Missouri School Public Relations Association - Administrator of the Year, Honorary Star – Stop Violence Coalition, National Education Saturn/UAW award for Outstanding Labor Management Relations, Kansas Public Relations Association – Communicator of the Year 2000, Leadership Kansas and Overland Park, Pittsburg State University – Meritorious Achievement Award 1997.
Dr. Benson believes Kansas State Government should maintain local control for local forms of government that are closest to the citizens they serve. Additionally, in financially supporting public schools to meet Kansas Constitutional standards, in supporting Senior Citizens Health Care, in supporting our business community particularly workforce development, in Infrastructure development, improving transparency in all levels of Kansas government, and encouraging the prosperity and growth of Diverse communities in Kansas.
